PART 3 DOLOMITES

24 Jul

Getting to London City Airport was a bit slow especially last 1km. some people were getting out of taxis early and walking last bit. Check-in queues were very slow and some people missed flights as a result. My flight to Venice Marco Polo airport went smoothly and had enjoyable lunch at waiting for my transport to my chalet - Haus Valentin at Badia. This is leased our to Colletts who arrange guided walks each day except Wednesday. This suited me fine as I needed a rest day (tomorrow).

25 Jul Wednesday

I made my way up the mountain by 2 chair lifts and found a nice restaurant. Ordered a ministrone soup with wurst. This turned out to be 2 frankfurters immersed in the soup. What a treat.

One of the walking trails leading from top chairlift station.

26 Jul

Marmelada viewed from distance. This is the highest mountain in Dolomites.

28 Jul

Our young guide helped one of the hikers manage dog on on chairlift.

Edelweiss

Novel use of horseshoes to hold fence railings.

Some of the hikes were strenuous but well worth the effort.

Azalia, lots of it
 Not sure what this is??

Somehow they hauled this piano up to 2,500 metres to entertain hikers.

These e-bikes are capable of assisting riders up some very steep paths. I thought they were just super-fit riders till I saw their bikes up close.

The ski pistes are mowed to provide high grade fodder for racehorses.
